YouTube Restores Sidebar And Casting After Outage

If you went to YouTube right now, you’d notice that something was wrong with the homepage: the sidebar, which allows you to access things like your subscriptions feed, trending movies.

“Library,” which stores your Watch Later list and video history, was missing (though you can access a few of the pages by clicking on the hyperlinks we’ve included). In reaction to consumer stories on Twitter, the positioning was beset by issues for several hours on Tuesday.

Attempting to cast movies on a smart TV or watch broadcasts from a game console has also been disabled for some clients.

The account menu was also broken, which allows you to switch accounts, manage settings, and check your channel.

Customers could still watch videos from your homepage or search results, but users who wanted to meticulously manage their YouTube experience or producers who weren’t registered into the correct account had a difficult time using the platform.

Although the number of customer complaints appears to have decreased, YouTube has not given the all-clear. The company issued a press release about 4:30 p.m. ET stating that it is aware of the problem and is working on a solution.

Customers should be able to “log in, swap between accounts, and use the account menu & navigation bar across all providers (YouTube, YouTube TV, YouTube Music, YouTube Studio) and units,” according to the company, who updated the thread at 7:50 p.m. ET.

The company’s original post also mentioned issues casting to TVs or game consoles, using YouTube Studio features, and video playback being interrupted by “No web connection” problems.

Customers could still access their subscriptions and Watch Later lists while the YouTube app was down.
