IMDb TV Streaming Now Known As Amazon Freevee

A video-streaming service might easily get lost in the shuffle. As a result, starting April 27, Amazon will rebrand IMDb TV, the company’s free, ad-supported streaming service, as Amazon Freevee.

What’s New?

“Our new name accurately communicates who we are: a simple-to-navigate streaming service available to consumers for free, wherever and whenever they choose to watch some of the best original and licensed content available,” said Ashraf Alkarmi, Amazon’s director of Freeveee.

The old moniker didn’t exactly outshine, especially because the primary IMDB.com property is best recognized for cataloguing movies and television shows. However, Amazon is hoping that the makeover would attract more customers while stressing the company’s ties to the e-commerce behemoth. (It’s worth noting that the service was originally known as IMDb Freedive.)

What’s More?

IMDb TV has continued to grow in popularity under its previous moniker. The service’s monthly active users have tripled in the last two years, according to Amazon, thanks to its expanding availability across TV streaming and mobile devices. The service has also gotten additional original material and has recently moved to the United Kingdom, with ambitions to launch in Germany later this year.

“With a rising slate of imaginative and broadly appealing originals, we’re pleased to establish Freevee as the preeminent AVOD (ad-supported video on demand) service with programming consumers seek,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in the statement.

Digging In More Details

This year, Amazon Freevee’s original content is expected to increase by 70%. Bosch: Legacy, Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis, Greg Garcia’s comedy show Sprung, and another crime drama from Australia called Troppo are among the shows that will air. The program will also include original films, according to the business.

IMDb TV is currently available on “hundreds of devices,” according to Amazon. This includes streaming devices from Amazon, Roku, and Google, as well as LG and Samsung smart TVs. The service is also available on Android and iOS as a mobile app.
