Spotify Now Accepts Video Podcasts On A ‘Rolling Basis’

Spotify is pushing all podcasters to include video in their broadcasts, although some creators will have to wait for “vodcasts” to become available.

What’s New?

Anyone can apply for access to video posting features in Anchor, Spotify’s free self-publishing podcast division, which will disseminate the episodes directly on Spotify, starting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Apple Podcasts has enabled video podcasts for all creators using hosting options worldwide since 2005, according to the company.

Spotify’s access to vodcasts will be available on a “rolling basis” with a select group of creators, including established podcasters who are branching out into video and video creators aiming to expand their reach to Spotify listeners, according to the firm. Spotify just announced that it now hosts over 2.9 million podcasts.

What’s More?

In July 2020, the audio-streaming behemoth published visual podcasts for the first time. “The Joe Rogan Experience,” The Ringer’s “Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay,” Philip DeFranco, Jasmine Chiswell, “The WAN Show,” and “Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald” are among the shows and podcasters whose video versions are presently available.

“Fans can get to know their favorite podcast hosts even better with video podcasts, and producers can interact with their audiences in a far deeper way,” Spotify stated in a statement announcing the feature’s increased availability.

Spotify claims that depending on what they’re doing and what they’re listening to, customers want the flexibility to switch between audio-only and video.

Digging In More Details

Video-enabled podcasts may be viewed in full-screen mode on the Spotify mobile app, and listeners can switch back to audio exclusively at any moment. Vodcasts will be available on Spotify’s desktop client, web player, as well as most smart TVs and video gaming consoles.

Creators will soon be able to monetize Spotify video podcasts through the company’s podcast subscriptions function, which will allow them to make vodcasts available only to paying subscribers. Podcasters will also be able to embed existing ad agreements into their videos; Anchor just revealed that automated ads will be rolled out to a select group of artists in the coming months.
