The Motorola Razr 3 Has A Better Camera And A Boxier Appearance

In a pair of leaked images from trusted leaker Evan Blass (via 91mobiles), we get our first look at a third-generation Motorola Razr test model. With a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor and a 13MP sensor for macro and ultra-wide shots, the Maven has two advanced cameras on its back.

You’ll notice in the image of the device turned off that it appears to have lost its “chin” or lip that extended outwards in prior incarnations. When closed, it appears to fold in on itself to produce a square shape, which differs from both the current version and the original design.

The fingerprint sensor has also been relocated to the power button, which is expected to be on the device’s side, according to Blass. The fingerprint sensor was previously located on the chin of the 2019 Razr, but was moved to the back of the device with the release of the 5G-enabled Razr in 2020. Both locations were less than optimal – ledge Dieter Bohn, the company’s former executive editor, called the location on the back of the phone a “awkward spot to reach,” and claimed that putting it on the chin caused him to unlock the phone with two hands.

The Razr 3 has an FHD+ inner folding display and a hole-punch 32MP selfie camera, according to Blass. (An image of the device’s internal screen may be found at 91mobiles.) Motorola is expected to produce two versions of the device: a normal version with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system-on-a-chip (SoC) and a “Plus” variant with an enhanced, but as yet undisclosed, component. It will include up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of inbuilt storage for storage.

Motorola appears to be preparing to compete with Samsung’s flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, with its boxier form and two camera sensors. The first two Razer reboots weren’t particularly stunning, and the 2019 device cost $1,499. tags, as well as a bumpy screen, an uncomfortable hinge, and a poor camera.

Motorola’s second generation wasn’t any better, and the addition of 5G didn’t make the $1,399 price tag any more justified.

The third-generation Razr is expected to arrive in China in July or August, according to a statement made by a Lenovo executive in December (Lenovo purchased the mobile brand in 2014).
