Netflix Will Release Uncharted In July

Thanks to an agreement between Sony and the streaming service, Uncharted, the Tom Holland-starring film based on the PlayStation games, will be available on Netflix in July. According to What’s on Netflix, Uncharted, the film in which Tom Holland recreated some of the iconic scenes from the PlayStation series, will be available on US Netflix on July 15.

According to Netflix, Uncharted, the film in which Tom Holland recreated some of the iconic scenes from the PlayStation series, will be available on US Netflix on July 15. This will be the movie’s streaming debut, despite the fact that it seems like many people have already watched it. It reportedly made over $400 million during its theatrical run.

I suggest reading my colleague’s outstanding review to see how the movie holds up if you’re trying to determine whether to add it to your summer watch list (spoiler: about as well as those ancient buildings Nathan Drake is always destroying).

As a lifelong Uncharted fan, I’ll also add that it didn’t feel particularly necessary for the series, but my wife and a friend who hasn’t played any of the games really liked it. I’m stating that your results may vary.

Uncharted is making its way to Netflix thanks to an agreement Sony Pictures made with the streaming service last year. After Disney, NBCUniversal, and Warner Bros. all declared that their movies will predominantly debut on their own streaming platforms. Netflix lost the chance to have a number of theatrical blockbusters make their streaming debut on Disney Plus, Peacock, and HBO Max, respectively.

One of the big studios that was still around was Sony, and it consented to move many of their films from theatres to the platform. The agreement also covers Morbius, a box office dud that was brought back to theatres by persistent memeing only to bomb once more. I’m sure Netflix is really thrilled for it to be morbin’ time since it doesn’t have enough problems to deal with right now.

Netflix won’t be the only place to see the next films and television shows based on PlayStation titles, despite the agreement and the impending release of Uncharted. Twisted Metal’s adaptation will air on Peacock, The Last of Us is headed to HBO, and Sony is collaborating with Netflix on a Horizon Zero Dawn television series.
