According to reports in the media, Microsoft is going to include adverts in its free-to-play Xbox console games.
According to Insider, the adverts will not disrupt the game and will instead appear on a billboard in a racing game, citing sources.
Microsoft is reportedly afraid that the advertising may “irritate” players, so it plans to create a “secret marketplace” where just a few firms will be allowed to participate in the new scheme.
According to the article, Microsoft would not utilize information gathered from the Bing search engine and other services to target advertisements on the Xbox gaming service.
“We’re always exploring for ways to improve the experience for gamers and developers,” a Microsoft spokeswoman told Insider, “but we don’t have anything further to share.”
In-game adverts have been seen in console games before, with EA Games permitting ads in Madden NFL, Skate, NHL, and NASCAR franchises, as well as Burnout Paradise.
Meanwhile, Microsoft just released a critical update for Xbox Series X and Series S consoles that allows them to download system and game updates while in Energy Saving mode.
This year, Microsoft also intends to launch an Xbox Game Pass family package.
According to reports, the family plan option will allow Xbox Game Pass access for five gamers at a lower cost than separate accounts.
According to The Verge, Microsoft would incorporate its Family Account system, which it also utilizes for its Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions.
For $9.99 each month, Microsoft offers Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass.
