Joe Rogan Is Apparently Being Paid $200 Million By Spotify, Which Is Double What Was Previously Reported

It turns out that the first rumors regarding the $100 million contract between Spotify and Joe Rogan were off…by around $100 million dollars.
According to the New York Times, Spotify is supposedly paying podcaster Joe Rogan far more for their license contract than previously reported.
When the deal was first announced in 2020, it was stated that Spotify would pay Rogan $100 million to carry his immensely popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, solely on their platform.

Spot On.. Spotify!

The three-and-a-half-year deal, according to two Times sources, is actually for $200 million. Those first estimates were twice as high as the real amount. When the deal was rumored to be worth $100 million, it was already a tremendous deal.
It was evident whose side Spotify would take when Neil Young demanded that his songs be removed from Spotify due to COVID falsehoods revealed on Rogan’s podcast… precisely because of the financial stakes in Rogan The fact that the transaction reportedly cost $200 million only adds to Spotify’s choice to support Rogan.

What’s More?

Spotify has purchased entire podcasting companies, like as the popular podcast producer Gimlet, for approximately the same amount that it is paying Rogan for a license arrangement, according to the New York Times. Spotify is merely remunerating Spotify for its exclusivity. Rogan maintains creative and ownership control over his show.
When you look at the big perspective, the money Spotify is paying Rogan makes sense: Much like Apple Podcasts was for many years, the music streaming service sought to become the de facto podcasting platform. In fact, Spotify surpassed Apple as the most popular podcast platform last October.
And the firm is merely increasing its podcasting efforts. Spotify announced the acquisition of Podsights and Chartable, two of the largest podcast advertising and analytics companies, on Wednesday.
Still, $200 million to host Joe Rogan’s show exclusively for three and a half years is a lot of money. That is a staggering sum of money.
Mashable has reached out to Spotify for comment; if we hear back, we’ll update this piece.
