Here’s How The Galaxy S22 Stacks Up Against The iPhone 13

While brand loyalty is strong in the United States, some phone users will certainly want to look over the fence to check whether the grass is actually greener on the other side.

Although I haven’t had the opportunity to test or review Samsung’s new Galaxy S22, it is expecte  to be one of the best Android phones available in the United States. With that in mind, when Android and iPhone customers wish to switch ecosystems, it’s usually a choice between Samsung’s latest Galaxy S phone and Apple’s latest iPhone.

Thanks to a triple-lens camera system and a screen that supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate — a feature that makes animations very fluid and makes the phone seem ultra-premium — the Galaxy S22’s base specifications reveal that it’s more like the $1,000 iPhone 13 Pro than the original iPhone 13.

Design, Size, Display, and Specifications of the Galaxy S22 vs iPhone 13

Both phones have approximately identical dimensions and screen sizes, as well as high-resolution OLED panels with comparable crispness. However, the iPhone 13’s screen refreshes at 60Hz, whereas the Galaxy S22’s screen can refresh at 120Hz, providing a smoother and more premium experience. In this aspect, the Galaxy S22 ($800) is more comparable to the $1,000 iPhone 13 Pro, which also has a 120Hz refresh rate.

It’s also worth noting that Samsung offers the $1,000 Galaxy S22 Plus, which has a 6.6-inch display that’s almost as big as the 6.7-inch panel on the $1,100 iPhone 13 Pro Max. Then there’s the $1,200 Galaxy S22 Ultra, which, with its gigantic 6.8-inch screen and S Pen, is in a league of its own.

Design aesthetics are subjective, therefore it’s all up to you.

Overall Quality of Samsung Galaxy S22 vs iPhone 13

At least in the United States, both phones provide the top quality in their own ecosystems. However, the iPhone 13 is made of metal and glass, and the Galaxy S22 is made of plastic – it’s difficult to tell, but it’s true. In terms of overall build quality, the iPhone 13 is superior.

Cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S22 and the iPhone 13

I haven’t had a chance to properly test the Galaxy S22’s cameras yet, but both phones are considered to be the pinnacle of smartphone camera capabilities. The $800 Galaxy S22, on the other hand, includes a third zoom lens, making it more comparable to the $1,000 iPhone 13 Pro in that aspect. The Galaxy S22’s cameras clearly feature high megapixel counts, which are designed to boost performance in low-light situations or shoot ultra-sharp photos in optimum lighting circumstances. However, when compared against iPhones with inferior 12-megapixel cameras, I’ve rarely found that to be an advantage.

Performance of the Samsung Galaxy S22 vs the iPhone 13

Both phones have similar performance, but Apple’s A-series processors consistently outperform Qualcomm’s in benchmark tests. In typical use or with games, I’ve never seen much of a difference between the two, and it doesn’t appear to have a substantial impact on longevity.

Software Comparison: Samsung Galaxy S22 vs. iPhone 13

Apple’s iOS runs on iPhones, whereas Google’s Android runs on Galaxy S phones. Except in terms of long-term support, neither is superior than the other. The iPhone 6S, which was release in 2015 and came with iOS 9, is compatible with iOS 15. That’s six different iOS versions, which is incredible. Furthermore, Apple provides security upgrades to even older iPhones that don’t support the most recent version of iOS.

Samsung, on the other hand, offers three Android versions, which is a pitiful number. Samsung also promised four years of security upgrades, effectively extending the phone’s lifespan to four years. However, it falls short of Apple’s software and security update support.
