Free Next-Gen Updates Are Coming To Resident Evil 2, 3, And 7

The most current Resident Evil titles are getting a next-gen makeover, according to Capcom. On the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S “later this year,” the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3, as well as Resident Evil 7, will receive “visual upgrades.”

What’s New?

Capcom didn’t reveal much else in terms of specifications, but we can probably expect 4K resolutions and 60 frames per second, or even a performance boost that improves frame rates at varying resolutions. Upgrades such as ray tracing, stronger shadows, and improved visual effects are also likely.

The best part is that these visual upgrades are completely free. “Those who already possess these titles on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be eligible for a free digital upgrade.”

What’s More?

PC gamers haven’t gone unnoticed. In a follow-up tweet, Capcom stated that once the next-gen platform updates go live, all three titles would receive the same visual changes in a free update.

It’s weird to think that we’ve been playing the current generation of consoles for well over a year and we’re still getting updates for last-gen titles. Cyberpunk 2077 has received a next-gen update, bringing most of the graphic improvements seen on PC to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as a slew of other upgrades, bug fixes, and quality-of-life changes.

In less than two weeks, GTA 5 will get a next-gen update with identical improvements, however, you’ll only be able to transfer one character to your current-gen platform of choice.

Capcom may have recently teased remasters of numerous vintage Resident Evil titles in unrelated Resident Evil news. On Capcom’s official site, both Resident Evil Outbreak and Code: Veronica received up-rezzed artwork, a step that many believe would not have been made if there wasn’t something in the works for these older games.
