E3 2022 Is Officially Cancelled

After postponing its in-person E3 2022 event earlier this year, the ESA has now told its partners that there will be no digital event equivalent this year as well, effectively cancelling E3 2022.

What’s New?

Razer PR lead Will Powers tweeted the news, saying that an email had been sent out informing the postponement of a digital E3 event. The contents of the email have also been independently verified by IGN.

After having no event in 2020 owing to COVID-19, the ESA had planned for an in-person E3 event this year and a digital one in 2021.

The ESA was unable to make a public declaration on whether or not there would be a digital counterpart at the moment, hence the project was cancelled in January.

What’s More?

According to insiders who spoke to IGN at the time, conversations for E3 had been tense all year, with third parties that were regularly involved finding the ESA’s continued quiet on their intentions aggravating.

According to sources close to the event, discussions regarding a possible digital version have continued since then, although without much traction. Instead, the ESA appears to be regrouping in preparation for a bigger comeback in 2023.

Digging In More Details

“We’ll put all of our effort and resources into revitalizing the physical and digital E3 experience next summer.” The 2023 showcase will bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new style and interactive experience.

“In 2023, we look forward to bringing E3 to fans all across the world live from Los Angeles.”

The 2022 exhibition has been cancelled, according to the ESA, so that the organization may “concentrate its resources” on the 2023 show.
