Discord Is Making Its Way Back After A Brief But Widespread Outage

For a portion of the day, Discord was unavailable due to a recent and “widespread” API failure. Discord began examining the situation at roughly 2:49 p.m. ET after reports of the issue began to surface online. It said minutes later that it had identified the outage’s root cause, but that it was also working with a secondary issue involving one of its database clusters. At the time, the firm stated, “We have our complete on-call response staff online and attending to the issue.”

We’re looking into a widespread API outage and are working to get it fixed as soon as possible.

The company established a login limit at 3:07 p.m. ET to manage its traffic load, which is gradually relaxing as things return to normal. If you can’t enter your Discord account right now, wait 30 minutes to an hour and try again.

According to Discord, most users should now be able to log in and utilize the service again. “Some Discord servers may continue to experience some difficulty engaging with bots utilizing slash commands over the next hour,” the firm stated. “We wanted to lessen the demand on our databases as part of resolving the situation, so we turned down various portions of our slash command system.” Discord pledged to release a postmortem once it had more details on what had occurred.
