Early in the following year, Chrome support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will stop, according to Google. Both operating systems won’t support Chrome 110, which is set to go live on February 7th.
On Windows 7 and 8.1, earlier releases of Chrome will still work. You won’t be able to install newer builds, which will come with new features and security upgrades.
Google advised upgrading to Windows 10 or Windows 11 on the support page that broke the news in order to continue receiving Chrome updates.
For those whose computers don’t support more recent versions of Microsoft’s operating system, businesses that are still using Windows 7 or 8.1, and individuals who can’t afford to buy a new computer, that could be challenging.
Google had to eventually stop providing support, though. The company emphasized that its schedule coincides with Microsoft’s January 10th decision to cease extended support for Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.
In actuality, Google will continue to support Chrome on Windows 7 for a longer period of time. It had previously stated that it would discontinue providing OS-specific Chrome upgrades in 2021, then this year.
